CODE OF CONDUCT FOR TEACHERS
The onus of a teacher is not just teaching but being a nurturer, counsellor, leader and role model, a teacher shall perform all the duties with efficiency as per the norms of the institution.
A teacher shall not discriminate against a student on political grounds, race, religion, caste, language, sex or for other reason of an arbitrary or personal nature and shall not incite students/teachers against other students /teachers, colleagues or administration/governing body of the college.
A teacher shall carry out the legitimate academic and administrative decisions taken by the authorities of the college pertaining to his/her sphere of responsibility/duties.
A teacher shall co-operate with the authorities for the betterment of the institution keeping in view the interest and inconformity with dignity of the profession.
A teacher shall refrain themselves from availing leave except on unavoidable circumstances and as far as practicable with prior intimation, keeping in view their particular responsibility for completion of academic schedule.
A teacher shall update his/her knowledge and skills professionally.
A teacher being a role model shall organize various technical events for the overall benefit of student- community in particular and society in general.
A teacher ought to encourage the students for their participation in all co-curricular events besides curricular activities.
A teacher shall not associate himself/herself with any organizational activities that are against the integrity and ethics of teaching profession.
A teacher must follow the mentor-mentee system of higher education and accordingly shall take a proper care of the group of mentee assigned to him in all respects of life.
All the teachers shall prepare a lesson/teaching plan before classes and prefer adopting modern ICT tools and methods for better teaching and learning.
A teacher must inculcate the feeling of patriotism, peace, harmony and scientific outlook among his students.
The teacher shall not accept any assignment from any external agency without the proper permission of college authority.
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS
The code shall be applicable to all kinds of conducts of the students within the college premises for which undertaking shall be taken from the students while seeking admission.
That every student will maintain proper discipline, integrity and dignity in the college campus and will behave appropriately with the officers, authorities, faculty members, staff members and other students of the institution.
That in case any student causes any damage/breakage fully or partially to any article, equipment, apparatus and property of institution by mistake or deliberately, the college will have all the rights to recover the damages caused by him/her and impose monitory fine on him/her, and in case of non- payment, college may cancel his/her admission or may take any legal action against him/her.
A regular student of the institution can enrol himself/herself for any other course simultaneously from any other institution provided the timing of courses does not coincide as per UGC guideline.
That he/she will not indulge in any unlawful activity including ragging, malpractice, misconduct, consumption of liquor, drugs, smoking and any other kind of addiction in the college premises. In case he/she is found indulging in any of the above activities, the college may take legal action against him/her as admissible under rule.
That he/she shall attend the college regularly and mark a compulsory attendance of 75% for being eligible to appear in the examination. However, in case of unavoidable circumstance relaxation of 5% can be granted by head of the institution after proper verification of genuineness.
No student shall entertain any outsider within the college premises without a valid reason and without the permission of principal. In case permission is granted proper entry shall be made in the entry book at the gate citing proper reason and purpose of visiting the college campus.
That his/her absence from scheduled classes for long time without information shall put him/her under long absentee/shortage category.
That he/she would attend the college in proper uniform and carry his/her identity card issued by the college, every day. Failing which the college authority can initiate action as per rules and regulations of the institution.
That in case he/she is found travelling in the college bus without due authorization and permission he/she shall be liable to pay fine or Rs 100 rupees in addition to the route charges fixed by the college authorities.
That he/she shall maintain proper discipline and abide by the rules and circulars issued by the college from time to time and in case of any fault by him/her, the college can take action against him/her including debarring his/her entry in the college campus, library, sports grounds, canteen, reception, labs, workshops and cancellation of his/her admission.
A student desirous of withdrawing his/her name from the college rolls should submit an application to the head of institution duly signed by his/her parent/guardian. The cancelation certificate shall be issued only after the student clears all college dues. Such students shall in no case be readmitted during the same academic session.
GENERAL CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ALL STAFF
The SCS GDC Mendhar expects its employees to foster an environment which reflects the values of caring, learning, integrity and respect adhering to high ethical standards while performing their duties. The code of conduct offers guidance to its employees on the standard of dignity and professional conduct with the purpose to:
Maintain absolute integrity at all times.
Maintain absolute devotion to duty at all times.
Maintain independence & be impartial in the discharge of official duties.
Must not be absent without sanctioned leave.
Maintain a responsible and decent standard of conduct at work place.
Render courteous services to the public.
Keep away from demonstrations organized by political organizations.
Refrain themselves and their family from joining any organization that involved in subversive/criminal activities.
Must inform his/her superior in case of any detention.
Avoid consumption of intoxicating drinks/drugs etc., at work place.
Must not travel abroad without proper permission from higher authorities and maintain political neutrality within and outside the country.
Must not express any view prejudicial to the interest of the nation & sovereignty and integrity of India; public order and morality.
Must not take private consultancy work.
Must follow the social media policy of government.
COLLEGE LIBRARY
The college has a well-furnished library with thousands of books in various subjects. It subscribes to various journals and magazines of national and international repute. Besides this, the college library subscribes to important state and national newspapers. The code of conducts pertaining to library are as under:
Books will be issued to the students only on the production of the library card issued to him/her in the beginning of the academic session by the college librarian duly signed by the principal.
In case the card is lost, the students must immediately bring it to the notice of the college librarian to avoid any misuse of the same.
A duplicate card will be issued on a payment of Rs. 100/- after proper verification.
A damaged card can also be replaced by surrendering it to the college librarian along with a payment of Rs. 100/-
Books lost or damaged in any way shall have to be replaced by a latest edition by the borrower, failing which the double cost of the book shall be charged.
The borrower should satisfy himself/herself about the sound condition of the book before leaving the counter.
Staff/students shall be permitted to borrow maximum number of three books at a time for a period of 15 days. If borrower fails to return the same within prescribed time period, a fine @ Rs. 1/- per day per book shall be charged from the students for the first 15 days and thereafter @ Rs. 2/- per day per book.
Reference books, rare books, books especially reserved and current periodicals will not be issued for use at home, these can be consulted only in reading room.
Students appearing in the university examinations shall have to surrender their library cards/books before obtaining a no objection certificate for collection of admit card.
PROFESSIONAL ETHICS & HUMAN VALUES
The prime objectives prescribing professional ethics and human values are as follows:
To understand the moral values that ought to guide the lives of student community in particular and the college members in general.
To inspire and inculcate moral and social values of honesty, integrity, loyalty and discipline.
To appreciate the rights of others.
To justify the moral judgment concerning the teaching and learning process.
Intended to develop a set of beliefs, attitudes, and habits that students and teachers should display concerning morality.
To develop proficiency in recognizing moral problems like plagiarism etc.
To inculcate moral reasoning and moral coherence.
To develop, evolve, grow and augment moral imagination and to be receptive to creative responses and solutions.
To enhance and uphold moralistic communication while expressing and supporting each other's views.
PROFESSIONAL ETHICS
Professionalism is the conduct that characterize a profession or professional and implies quality of workmanship or service. Professional ethics guide how members of a professional institution should, or should not, affect others in the course of practicing their profession. The main attributes of professional ethic are:
Always strive for excellence: This is the first rule to achieve greatness in whatever endeavour you undertake. This is the quality that makes you and your work stand-out.
Be trustworthy: Trustworthiness is about fulfilling an assigned task and not letting down expectations. It is being dependable and reliable when called upon to deliver a service.
Be accountable: To be accountable is to stand tall and be counted for what actions you have undertaken. This is the blameworthiness and responsibility for your actions and its consequences, good or bad.
Be courteous and respectful: Courteousness is being friendly, polite and well-mannered with a gracious consideration towards others.
Be honest, open and transparent: Honesty is a facet of moral character that connects positive and virtuous attributes such as truthfulness, straightforwardness of conduct, loyalty, fairness, sincerity, openness in communication and generally operating in a way for others to see what actions are being performed.
Be competent and improvise continually: Competence is the ability of an individual to do a job properly, it is a combination of knowledge, skills and behaviour used to improve performance.
Always be ethical: Ethical behaviour is acting within certain moral codes in accordance with the generally accepted code of conduct or rules. It is always safe for an employee to "play by the rule”.
Be respectful of maintaining confidentiality: Confidentiality is respecting the set of rules or promise that restricts you from further and unauthorized dissemination of information.
Applying the foregoing rules helps you improve your professionalism within the college, but it is not complete until you impact knowledge on those around and below you. You must show and lead by good example. Professionalism is highly valued by every institution today.
Human values
Human value is defined as "a principle that promotes well-being or prevents harm”. The various people responsible for inculcating and evolving human values are parents, religious leaders & gurus in daily life and teachers at the institute level. Human values can assure a happy and harmonious human society at SCS Govt. Degree College, Mendhar. We cultivate and inculcate these values in the students and staff through teaching and conducting various value-based activities. Values related to right-conduct are:
Self-help skills: Care of possessions, diet, hygiene, modesty, posture, self-reliance, and tidy appearance.
Social skills: Good behaviour, good manners, good relationships, helpfulness, no wastage, and good environment.
Ethical skills: Courage, dependability, duty, punctuality, resourcefulness, ingenuity, initiative, and responsibility.
Peace: Calmness, discipline, equality, faithfulness, harmony, inner silence, patience, satisfaction, self-control, self- respect, sense control, tolerance, and understanding.
Truth: Fairness, fearlessness, honesty, integrity intuition, justice, purity, quest for knowledge, reason, sincerity, sprit of enquiry, trust, truthfulness, and determination.
Love: Acceptance, affection, care, compassion, consideration, devotion, empathy, forbearance, generosity, humanness, interdependence, patience, patriotism, sacrifice, sharing, sympathy, thoughtfulness, tolerance and trust.
